ANORA shows the talent of a new star, Mickey Madson, and wins a deserved Oscar

Beginning by an unfforgetable end, Anora exales all the efforts of Mickey Madison in her intense work of reserching for the role. She not only had to move to Brighton beach, one of the films main locations, learn the accent and poli-dance, but also got some notions of russian as well. The incredible performance by the protagonist played by Madison (in my opinion bigger than the film itself) is one of the highlights of a movie that we could classify as a bitter fairytale. 

More than that, Anora depicts the power of money, and how relations can be established by it. Of course we live in capitalism and with all the promesses of the american dream, but we also faces an estigmatization of some communities, as Sean Baker´s movies usually represents. 

Here, maybe more than in the other Sean Baker´s movies, the spectator enters a rollercoaster of ups and downs that travels between diferent genders: romance, drama, comedy, mafia. The result is although the film, in my view, has a lot of qualities, sometimes the funny parts felt a little corny, simplified and the action rushed. But overall is a film that represents a contemporary issue in a very skilled way.

Começando por um fim memorável, Anora exala todos os esforços de Mickey Madison em seu intenso trabalho de preparação para o papel. Ela não apenas teve que se mudar para Brighton beach, uma das principais localizações dos filmes, aprender o sotaque e a poli-dança, mas também obteve algumas noções de russo. A performance incrível do protagonista interpretado por Madison (na minha opinião maior que o próprio filme) é um dos destaques de um filme que poderíamos classificar como um conto de fadas amargo.

Mais do que isso, Anora descreve o poder do dinheiro, e como as relações de poder são moldadas por ele. É claro que vivemos no capitalismo e com todas as promessas do sonho americano, mas também enfrentamos uma estigmatização de algumas comunidades, como os filmes de Sean Baker geralmente representam.

Aqui, talvez mais do que nos filmes de outros Sean Baker, o espectador entra em uma montanha -russa de altos e baixos que viajam entre gêneros diferentes: romance, drama, comédia, máfia. Na minha opinião, às vezes as partes engraçadas do filme parecem um pouco bregas, simplificadas e a ação apressada; mas, no geral, ele representa uma questão contemporânea de maneira muito qualificada.
